The SEND Resource Provision - Maple Class
At St Paul’s C of E Primary School, we have a Resource Base Provision. The unit provides support for children with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) who require a combination of specialist and mainstream provision.
Where appropriate, children in The Maple Class are supported to access mainstream provision and are provided with a high level of support to develop their academic ability, their communication and interaction skills and their social progress.
If you wish to discuss this further, please contact our Inclusion Lead Peter Eames: peter.eames@st-pauls.stockport.sch.uk
Which pupils can access Resourced SEND provision at St Paul’s?
Resourced SEND provision at St Paul’s is for primary aged children with an EHCP which describes complex needs in one or more of the four main areas of the SEN Code of Practice (2015). These areas are: Cognition and Learning, Physical and Sensory, Communication and Interaction, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health. The class consists of children aged between 4 and 6 years old (Reception to Year 2).
How does my child access this provision?
Places are allocated by the Local Authority and the school is identified in the child’s EHCP.
What does Resource Provision look like?
Children access smaller class sizes with a higher ratio of adult support. Staff members tailor the curriculum to meet each child’s individual needs.
The children are taught by a SEND team of teachers and teaching assistants. The adults who work in The Maple Room are:
Miss Shore - Class Teacher
Mrs Wood - Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
Miss Connor - Class Teaching Assistant (TA)
Miss Townsend - Class Teaching Assistant (TA)
The children within the class receive the majority of their learning within the resource base setting. They can also access their parallel mainstream class; this is dependent on each individual child’s needs, strengths and/or interests.
Lessons within The Maple Room are delivered on a one to one, group and whole class basis.
The curriculum looks at the development of the whole child using multi-sensory approaches.
We have access to outside agencies with regular visits from speech and language therapists.
Staff engage in frequent communication with parents to involve them in the whole education of their child.
Teachers and TAs are trained to deliver a wide range of intervention programmes.
Are there any Special Facilities or Resources?
The Maple Room has a dedicated secure outdoor space. There are a range of specialist resources that support the development of children’s academic and independence skills.
The Inclusion Lead oversees this provision, as well as mainstream provision. If you require more information on St Paul’s mainstream SEND provision, please see St Paul’s SEND Information Report. What specialist services or expertise do you access?
As a school, we work closely with a range of external agencies. These agencies help us to ensure that the support a child receives is of high quality. These agencies are: Stockport Inclusion Service, School Nurse, Educational Psychologist, Paediatricians, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Social Care including: Social Workers and Family Support Workers.
How do I know how well my child is doing?
You will be informed of your child’s progress and targets set at review meetings, parent’s evenings and through the annual school report.
We promote communication between school staff and parents on Class Dojo. We also communicate with parents/carers verbally with daily updates or through a daily communication book.
Who do I contact if I want further information or would like to visit the Resourced provision?
