Christian Distinctiveness

As a church school, the Christian ethos is a very important aspect of the life of the school, and we aim to encourage the children to follow this ethos in all that they do, and in the relationships they develop with those around them, whether it is staff, other adults or children.  We have strong links with our Church, St. Luke's, and the minister, Reverend Chris Blunt and Andy Crook Curate, who regularly visits school.  We also plan visits from the Christians in Schools Trust for assemblies and class-based activities.

In May 2023 we had our latest Church Inspection, which was a very positive experience and confirmed what we as a school believed we were doing well.

Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act became law in 2010.  It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation.  Everyone in Britain is protected because of the protected characteristics that we all have.  There are nine Protected Characteristics under the Equality Act:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Marriage or civil partnership
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation
  • Pregnancy and maternity

The Nine Protected Characteristics are woven through our PSHE Curriculum ‘as a golden thread’ to maximise teaching and learning opportunities for diversity and equality.  This allows pupils at St Paul’s to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens.

We ensure our children understand that:

  • There are no outsiders at St Paul’s
  • Everyone is different
  • We celebrate our differences
  • We are all equal in our differences

At St Paul’s, we achieve this through the delivery of an inclusive curriculum and learning environment where all individuals see themselves reflected within it, and which prepares them for life in a diverse society.
