Medical

If you would like the school to administer medication to your child, please complete a Medication Permission & Record – Individual Pupil form.  All medication must be in date, in its original box (as dispensed by the Pharmacist) and clearly labelled with your child's name.  Please note that only prescribed medication will be administered by the school.  Non-prescription medicines, such as cough medicine and throat lozenges will not be given.  Calpol can be administered if recommended by a trained first aider, once permission has been received from the parent/carer.

If your child has an inhaler, they must be received in school in the original box with a pharmacy sticker clearly stating your child’s name.  You must also provide a spacer.   Inhalers are kept in your child's classroom.

Parents/Carers have a responsibility to:

  • Tell the school if their child has a medical condition or complex health need and inform the school if there are any changes to their child’s condition;
  • Check if the school has a complete and up-to-date Individual Health Plan if their child has a complex health need;
  • Inform the school about the medication their child requires during school hours and provide the school with in-date medication;
  • Provide the school with the prescribed medication labelled by the pharmacy with the pupil’s name, the name of the medication, the dose, the time the medication needs to be given and the expiry date for the medication.   Please note that only prescribed medication will be administered by the school.   Non-prescription medicines, ie. medications bought over the counter such as cough medicine, Ibuprofen, Piriton and throat lozenges will not be given.   Calpol can be administered if recommended by a trained first-aider in an emergency, once permission has been received from the parent/carer following a telephone conversation.
  • Complete the Medication Permission & Record – Individual Pupil form at the school office to ensure the medication is given correctly during school hours.  A trained school first-aider will check and sign the form with you
  • Inform school of any changes to their child’s medication and ensure the Medication Permission & Record – Individual Pupil form is updated correctly.
  • Inform the school of any medication their child requires while taking part in visits, outings or field trips and other out-of-school activities;
  • Inform the school if their child has complex health needs, ensure their child has a written Individual Health Plan for school and, if necessary, an asthma management plan from their doctor or specialist healthcare professional to help their child manage their condition;
  • Have completed/signed all relevant documentation, including the Individual Health Plan.   If appropriate, ensure that their child is as up-to-date as possible with immunisations to ensure that both the school and its pupils are as safe as possible.  If parents d not wish to have their child vaccinated, then the school needs to be made aware of this.  A risk assessment f activities will be undertaken and completed.

Food Allergies

If your child has a food allergy, please contact the School Office immediately.  It is important that you let us know of any allergies even if your child has a packed lunch every day, as your child's class may have a tasting session as part of the curriculum.

Our catering team, Taylor Shaw, cater for all recognised food allergens including dairy, egg, fish, gluten, nut, peanut, sesame, etc.  They also support vegetarian, pork and beef free diets.

If your child has a food allergy, you will be asked to complete a 'Special Diet Request Form' and provide medical evidence, if appropriate.  The catering team will assess your application and determine the appropriate menu for your child.
