St Paul's CE Primary School Council 2023-2024
St Paul's School Council for 2023-24
Our School Council plays an important part in the everyday life of St Pauls.
We meet on Tuesday lunchtimes with Mrs Bramley. If you have ideas or issues you would like the School Council to discuss, please talk to your Class Representative.
How does our School Council work?
School Council members are elected, by vote, by their classmates to represent each class. We meet on Tuesday lunchtimes to talk about things we think are important to us in our school community. If there is something we feel that could be improved, we will decide upon a plan of action and present it to our Headteacher and Class Teachers to discuss if an idea is possible to put into action.
We have a 'Chairperson' who is in charge of meetings and a 'Secretary' who writes the notes of what we discuss. These are called the School Council Minutes and we share them on our School Council noticeboard.
After meetings we report back to our classes and keep our friends informed of discussions and forthcoming events that we would like to plan. We have lots of ideas and work sensibly in meetings to prioritise what we feel is most important for our school.
Mrs Bramley helps us, throughout the year, with our School Council work.

Class Representatives hard at work!
School Council visit the Houses of Parliament
Here we are inside the Palace of Westminster!
The School Council enjoyed a fantastic trip to London to visit the Houses of Parliament. The day began by taking a train from Stockport to Euston and then an underground journey on the tube to Westminster.
The children were given a tour of the House of Commons and Houses of Lords. A debate was in progress in both Houses during the visit so the group were fortunate enough to observe and listen to a cross-party exchange of views. Afterwards, the children took part in a workshop where they learnt about ‘Laws and Debating’ and how their role in St Paul’s School Council is very similar to the work of Parliament.
The visit ended by meeting Anne Coffey MP for Stockport in the Palace of Westminster. Mrs Coffey is a friend of the School Council. In London, the children were able to ask Anne about her work whilst she is in the Houses of Parliament and discuss how her role of representing the views and concerns of Stockport residents is very similar to the role of our School Councillors who represent their peers by working together to make St Paul’s an even better school for us all to enjoy.
We would like to say a massive thank you to the children who took part in the visit. It was a very long, but very exciting day that provided so much learning whilst making it a day never to forget.
On our way to London!
School Council making Brinnington Park a better place to play!
School Council joined the Mayoress of Stockport to officially open the new play area in Brinnington Park
The School Council were invited to work with Green Spaces to improve the play area in Brinnington Park. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about how different types of play equipment can benefit a healthier lifestyle and allow children to exercise whilst having fun.
The new play area in Brinnington Park has been refurbished following the plans the children agreed with Green Spaces. The children were invited to the official grand opening of the play area by the Mayoress of Stockport.
The School Council had a lovely afternoon trying out the different play equipment that they had discussed and chosen. It was inspiring for the children to work on a project from the planning stage right through to installation and then enjoy using the actual equipment.
The children were introduced to the Mayoress, who thanked them for their hard work and were given a bag full of goodies.
Well done School Council!
Thanks for reading our web page and if you have any ideas you would like to share, please talk to your Class Representative and Mrs Bramley.
School Council meet Mrs Anne Coffey MP
Mrs Coffey MP met with our School Council to discuss her role in Parliament and how similar it is to the work and responsibilities that our Class Representatives have here in St Paul's.
Everyone agreed that listening to others' opinions and ideas is important. We talked about recognising that although two sides may not always agree, everyone's thoughts are equally important and that we must learn to respect one another.
