Ethos Group - serving as Jesus would

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

Our Ethos group consists of sixteen Year 5 and Year 6 children dedicated to leading our school community in doing Jesus' work in and around St Paul's, Brinnington, as well as promoting and evaluating our status as a Christian school with Jesus at the centre. We meet weekly to plan assemblies and specific faith activities, such as our Inter Faith Week and to advise staff on how to create spiritual spaces around school inside and out, that best serve all our children and staff.

We are looking forward to working closely with our new vicar to deliver exciting, thought-provoking and encouraging assemblies. We have recently evaluated our classroom spaces to ensure they have welcoming and useful Reflection areas, clear displays on our Christian value for the half term and demonstrate our distinctly Christian ethos in line with our school Vision Statement.

We are also looking to work closely with our School Council on charity events and fundraising to ensure they reflect our Christian values and ethos. For example, we are looking at ways to support the Ukraine refugees who have recently arrived in Stockport as well as continuing to look to support other local charities and causes.

Our Ethos Group 2022-23

Welcome back to our members from last year, the Year 6s, Kaydee, Kaylie and Izzy. We also have some new members from Year 5 and Year 6 - Emily James Deeksha Emaan Elliot Jack Ava Alisha Karly Billie Darcy Ethan and Lily.

We have now begun meeting. We meet every Tuesday or Wednesday for 45 minutes. We already have plenty to do and lots of new ideas for improving our Christian distinctiveness and stepping out as courageous advocates in school, our community and the world.

Feel free to have a look at the minutes from our last meeting.

Remembrance Day 2021

As the Ethos group, we co-led the assembly with Miss Harrington, where we shared the history of the poppy appeal. Miss Harrington read the poem On Flanders Field and then showed a thought-provoking video. We prayed for all the fallen soldiers, injured soldiers and their families and for peace throughout the world. It was a lovely assembly and we thoroughly enjoyed being part of such a special service.

Have a look back at the slides we used and the video too.

Harvest 2021

We have just completed our assembly series for our Harvest Festival celebration 2021. Our theme was Food Glorious Food and we challenged our school to think about where the food can be found around the world. We shared that the continents that have the largest populations have the least food, such as Asia and Africa. In contrast, the continents with smaller populations have the most food. For example, North America has HALF of the world's food and less than a tenth of the world's population.

We think that is really unfair!

But, we thought about what Jesus would do and then made some suggestions on what we can do to help. Have a look at our slides to see what we suggested.
