Christian Value

This half term, our Christian value is FORGIVENESS. We will be adding to our Values tab how we are exploring how that looks in our school and how we can live it out in our lives, as Jesus taught us to.

The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.

    Proverbs 12:22

Religious Education

Our Religious Education enriches all of our learning. This term, we are looking at the question...

What can be done to reduce Racism?

Keep a lookout for the work and reflections we will be creating

during this unit this term.

Homework in Year 6

Homework will be set every week.

Children will be expected to complete their reading, weekly spellings and times tables activities.

This will support their progress throughout the year in English and Mathematics.

In addition to this, children will have homework which is linked to our History and Geography learning.

Children will be able to earn points for each activity they complete, working towards a target and earning a prize when their target is reached.

We love to read

Children will have their own reading books to take home. We look forward to seeing your progress and adding to our reading jar...when and what will be our first class reward?

Children in Year 6 enjoy focused reading sessions where you can develop your reading and comprehension skills.

We have a well resourced school library where the children are allowed to select a book.

There is also a reading corner in the classroom with designated slots when the children can enjoy a quiet read.

We will be reading a class book - which this term is 'Kensuke's Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo.

Sumdog is another online resource which is used to support learning of Mathematics.

In Spring Term Two, our humanities focus in History is

So...let's crack on!

Year 6LM Internet Safety Poster Winner!

This week, children have learnt about the many hidden dangers of using the Internet and, more specifically, how they can use technology with great care. The learning included; not providing others with personal details, checking for scams and talking to adults about what they see, read and use. We also talked about websites and applications which are suitable for children. The overriding message was 'Stop and think before you click!' and this poster captured this message beautifully.

Three-dimensional sculptures in Art

In Autumn two we learnt about the artist Lubaina Himid and used her work to inspire our artwork. We created our artwork through exploring texture and form. We then learnt how structure and balance could help to transform our two-dimensional artwork into a three-dimensional outcome. We love our final results - three-dimensional structures to be really proud of!

St Mary's Church in Stockport Market Place.

Ahead of celebrating Christmas Year 6 were able to find out more about St Mary's Church and its history. The children participated in a scavenger hunt, sang hymns and leant about the Christmas story. It was a really lovely morning with Rev Andy and Rev Chris. Thank you.

The Fire Brigade visited Year 6.

In November, ahead of Bonfire Night, the local Fire brigade visited Year 6. The purpose of the visit was to emphasise the importance of safety near bonfires and fireworks. The children were instructed to keep a safe distinct away from these dangers at all times. The Fire officers also spoke about ensuring fire does not spread in the home and that the children can check that both the smoke alarm and carbon monoxide sensor are working effectively - these can save your life.

Making bird boxes

In Autumn term one, in Design & Technology, we focused on the skills necessary to make a suitable bird box. First, we researched their appearance, dimensions and where best to locate them outside. Then we designed our own bird boxes and decided where in the school grounds we would put them. We made our bird boxes with a classmate - developing our cutting, joining and painting skills. We think the finished products look terrific and will make an ideal home for the birds.
