John 10:10

Christian Value

Our focus for Spring 2 half term  is forgiveness. We will be adding to our Values tab how we are exploring how that looks in our school and how we can live it out in our lives, as Jesus taught us to.

Attendance Award

We all enjoyed our special treat to celebrate receiving the attendance award. We ate chocolate chip cupcakes, wore our own clothes and played games.

Lunchtime Award!

What a successful week for Y2ME. We worked hard as a team to achieve excellent behaviour at lunchtime all week! Today we celebrated by eating our reward...Ice cream with chocolate sauce! Delicious.

History

Our Special Guest

We were visited by a special guest. We planned which questions we wanted to ask and she told us all about what life at St Paul's was like in the past, within living memory.

Science

Interfaith Week

We enjoyed learning about Buddhism during interfaith week. We read the story of Buddha and created drawings and paintings. You can find out more using this link.

Reading

We love reading in Year 2. We use our phonics to recognise and blend digraphs into words which we learnt to do following the Little Wandle phonic scheme. We also read every day in lessons across the curriculum. In our daily reading lessons, we read poetry, non-fiction and fiction texts and learn to discuss them and answer questions about them. The VIPERS help us to find answers to questions.

Reading Comprehension - field lane primary school

World Book Day

We all enjoyed World Book Day, and we love reading too!

Our Class Text

Poor Edward is having all kinds of problems with his uncle's dragon!

Every day we share a class story. We have read 'The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark' By Gill.  Tomlinson. We really hoped Plop the baby barn owl with find a way to love the dark!

The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark

In our English lessons we will be reading 'The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth' by Ellie Hattie. It's a fabulous pop-up book with amazing illustrations.

Geography

We made messy maps of our classroom when we were learning to use positional language. Then we drew our own maps.

We used the 4 compass points to describe the location of objects in our school grounds and drew our own chalk maps.

History

We learnt about Amelia Earhart's flight across the atlantic and talked about why she is a significant person in history. We made freeze frames of the moment she landed and pretended to interview the eye-witness.

Design Technology

We have been learning how to plan, prepare and make a healthy kebab. It was so much fun, and we all enjoyed eating our finished products!

Art

We learnt about the work of Molly Haslund and watched as she created spirals in many different ways. We experimented with different types of spirals using objects, chalk, pastel and paint.

Computing

We have been learning how to create our own sprites and programme codes using Scratch Junior. We can debug to solve problems too!

We have also learnt about how to collect and represent data.

Take a look at our Knowledge organisers.

Maths is FUN!

We have been learning how to share into equal groups. First we used counters, then we wrote out our calculations.

In English we have been reading 'The Dragon Machine' by Helen Ward. We have really enjoyed writing about dragons and have created our own versions of the story.

Mindfulness breaks

These help us calm our minds and focus so that we are ready to learn. You could try some at home.
