Online Safety

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE ONLINE AT SCHOOL

At St Paul’s Cof E Primary School we want our pupils to become digitally literate, critical, safe and responsible citizens to enable effective and enjoyable experiences in a digital world.

As a school, we have established clear roles, responsibilities, and strategies to ensure the effectiveness of our filtering and monitoring systems when it comes to the use of technology.  Our Designated Safeguarding Lead, and IT provider (MGL) review these systems annually.  Although we use Smoothwall to monitor all our devices, we understand that no system is 100% effective.  To ensure that our pupils’ safety is maintained, we conduct regular training for our staff on supervising children using devices and integrate online safety through a range of subjects and approaches.   We recognise that online safety education is a whole school matter and goes well beyond the computing curriculum alone. Therefore, our teaching of framework objectives will come in many forms, for example, through discrete online safety, PSHE, as well as other curriculum areas, pastoral interactions, home learning, assemblies and special events.  With this approach, it is our intention that pupils will build resilience and develop safe and appropriate behaviours online, which in turn will lead to positive online experiences.
